goals
2011 Goals-January 3rd, 2011
So, here we are again with another year of goals ahead of us. As always, some of the goals were successful (run a 5K–done Thanksgiving Day!), others not so much (reading 24 books…didn’t happen in the least). However, I’m not giving up on setting goals. As I was reminded yesterday at Crossroads, resolutions are meant to make us be better. And that’s my goal for 2011. I want to be better.
Now, you may say that I’m crazy….that’s such a broad and generic goal. But that’s my goal. Putting pen to paper on the specifics is good, but there is also something about resolving within yourself to do something or not to do something that makes you better. One of those such things for myself in 2010 was to not eat McDonalds for anything other than ice cream/fruit parfait treats on occasion. I can honestly say that less than 12 times this past year did I find myself in a McDonalds drive through for those treats and there was not one french fry or chicken mcnugget (my two favs) that crossed these lips. Yes, a little silly of a goal maybe, but after watching several documentaries last year, including Food, Inc., I just couldn’t do it anymore. Fast food all-together has pretty much become non-existent in my life and for that, I’m thankful.
So, on to the 2011 goal of “Being Better.” Lewie and I each came up with 15 things we want to accomplish before we turn 30 a few months ago and a lot of the things we want to improve upon tie in directly with that list. (You can see that full list here). Being that having one “generic” goal was a little much, I had to break it down into some specific areas of my life in which I want to be better. The list was getting to about 8 things when I decided I could stretch it to 12 so that I can focus my attention on one goal each month specifically. In that same regard, I also came up with 12 scripture verses that I want to incorporate into memorization throughout this year. Here are my 12 (in order):
- Organization (growth)
- Relationships (friends & family, unconditional love)
- Finances (growth)
- Health (growth, unconditional love)
- Creativity (fun)
- Home Projects (fun)
- The blog (fun)
- Work (growth)
- Scentsy (growth)
- Giving (unconditional love)
- Cooking (fun)
- Hospitality (unconditional love, fun)
**My post about Core Values inspired the secondary categories. I realized that Intentionality seemed woven throughout all of them, so that one is a given.**
So those are the areas I want to “be better” at in 2011. In addition, I’ve broken down each month to have three small goals that I accomplish (and the beau has three as well) and three goals we accomplish together. If we meet our goals each month then we get to reward ourselves with a little trips throughout the year! We already have two on the docket and I’m stoked! 2011 is going to be a great year!

2010 Goals–January 5th, 2010
I’m still loving the idea of being happy with where my life is today, as is.
Did I meet all of my goals for 2009? Heck, no! Does that mean I’m going to stop trying in 2010? Heck, no! (However, the purchase of frozen meals did decrease–almost ELIMINATED–maybe 2 purchases all year!)
I look at 2009 and all the wonderful things and people it brought into my life, travels I made and life changes implemented and I cannot help but be happy with how it all turned out. Again, I’m still learning how to be a forward thinking visionary that I truly believe God has created me to be as well as learn to embrace the river of life we are all journeying down–can’t always plan what’s around the corner, just have to be as prepared as possible.
Current Goals:
- Floss Daily at least every other day (baby steps…I know…ridiculous, but something I struggle with)
- Run AT LEAST 1 5K in 2010 (will be registering for one soon to have a TANGIBLE goal)
- Read 24 books this year.
- Write SOMETHING (journal, a blog, a card to someone) every day.
- Learn to CHILL out when “bad” things happen (my red-headed tendencies seem to raise their ugly little head from time to time…so thankful for such a patient husband).
- Cultivate a HEALTHY lifestyle for myself and our (one day) family–be more active, eat healthier & more local foods, read more than I watch TV or movies.
2009 Goals–January 7th 2009
Although I am posting this right around the time folks are making resolutions, I hope to mainly live into this one “resolution” and let these goals fall where they may. What resolution may that be, you ask?
Be happy with where my life is today, as is.
Sure, that doesn’t mean that I’m ditching self-improvement or am going to sit on the couch and watch “Jon and Kate plus Eight” every night (just Mondays). I WILL see these goals to completion, but I’m not going to live my life in disgust if I don’t quite get there in the time frame that I’ve planned. Check back in periodically for updates.
Life’s too short to be waiting on tomorrow. See more of what I’m talking about here.
““We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” — Joseph Campbell
Current Goals:
- Run a 5K in 2009
- Read 30 min. a day
- Write daily (blog, journaling, etc.)
- Stop buying frozen meals (I’ll finish eating what’s currently in my freezer. Or if someone happens to give me stock in Lean Pockets/Lean Michelina’s one day. But no more purchases).
